Teacher Grants

  • The Roanoke County Public Schools Education Foundation promotes the vision and strategic priorities of Roanoke County Public Schools through the development and distribution of donated financial resources. One of the primary ways that the Foundation directly supports the work of classroom teachers is the teacher grant program. The purpose of the grant program is to fund classroom projects using project-based and inquiry-centered learning to help students go beyond learning today’s academic context to develop 21st century skills and knowledge.

The teacher grant program reflects the division’s vision to prepare students not only in the traditional core subjects, but also to develop skills in critical thinking, communication, creativity, innovation, and collaboration. In order for students to succeed, they need to be able to use technology to learn content and skills so they know how to learn, think critically, solve problems, use information, communicate, innovate and collaborate. This includes authentic STEM-related projects. The project should be a rigorous learning experience.

The Foundation funds projects that directly enhance student learning and that are innovative, creative and closely align with project-based learning. We do not fund basic school supplies, professional development for teachers, purchases that would otherwise be funded by the school division, and will not be used solely for technology or equipment.

The average scholarship amount is $250 per project, but can be increased commensurate with the requested budget provided.
