Financial Reports

  • The Finance Department is responsible for preparing the annual budget and financial reports, including the following:

    • Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR) - A thorough and detailed presentation of the financial condition and activities for the past fiscal year.  Beginning in the fiscal year 2020-2021, the following reports are included as supplementary information, rather than being published separately as they had been previously:
      • Student Activity Funds Schedules of Cash Receipts, Disbursements, and Balances - a detailed report of cash activities in the Student Activity Funds.
      • Annual School Report (ASR) - A detailed report of revenue by source and expenditure by function and program, along with a variety of schedules required by the Virginia Department of Education.
    • Per Pupil Spending - The proposed average per-pupil cost for the division for the coming school year, as well as estimates for the current school year, and actual data for the previous year required by §22.1-92 of the Code of Virginia.
    • Budget - A financial plan for a given period, usually a fiscal year, containing an estimate of proposed expenditures and a proposed means of financing them.

  • Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting
    This nationally recognized program was established by ASBO to encourage school business officials to achieve a high standard of financial reporting and accountability. The award is the highest recognition for school division financial operations offered by ASBO, and it is only conferred upon school systems that have met or exceeded the standards of the program.  Roanoke County Public Schools has received this award for 21 consecutive years, from 2000-2001 through 2020-2021.

  • Meritorious Budget Award
    This nationally recognized program was established by The Association of School Business Officials International (ASBO) to promote excellence in school budget presentation. The award is the highest recognition for school division budget operations offered by ASBO, and it is only conferred upon school systems that have met or exceeded the standards of the program.  Roanoke County Public Schools has received this award for 13 consecutive years, from 2006-2007 through 2018-2019.
