School Nutrition

  • The school nutrition program strives to offer nutritious, well-balanced school meals that meet the needs of the various age groups in our student community.  We offer breakfast and lunch programs at all Roanoke County schools daily.

    The United States Department of Agriculture oversees the operation by the issuance of regulations and guidelines that are required to be followed by the program operation.

    Starting in August 2022, six Roanoke County schools will participate in the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) allowing all students at those sites to eat breakfast and lunch meals for free.  These schools are: Burlington Elementary, Herman L. Horn Elementary, Masons Cove Elementary, Mount Pleasant Elementary, Mountain View Elementary and W.E. Cundiff Elementary.  Families do not have to apply for free meal benefits for students at these schools.

    For all other Roanoke County Schools, families may apply to participate in the free and reduced-price meal program.  Household applications are evaluated according to USDA Income Eligibility Guidelines.  To apply, complete one application for ALL children in the household who are enrolled in Roanoke County Schools.  A new application must be filled out each school year in order to be eligible.  Once completed and submitted, the application comes directly to the Nutrition Office and is processed accordingly. 

    There are several ways to complete an application.  Please choose only ONE of the following options:

    1. A confidential and secure online application can be completed at http://family.titank12.com. Applications are being accepted now.  Multiple language options are available.
    2. A paper application may be obtained and turned in at any school site. Spanish language applications are available. Please contact the Central Office if other languages are needed.

    For school year 2022-2023, the cost of reduced-price meals is being waived as a result of state funding.

    The cost to purchase student meals is $1.50 for breakfast and $3.00 for lunch.  Payment may be made in the cafeteria of each school by cash or check.  Payments may be made through a secure online provider at http://family.titank12.com using a major credit card or bank account.  There is a third-party service fee for using the online payment service.  Parents may also monitor their child’s account on this website at no cost.

    Ala carte sales will be available at school sites as operations allow.  Milk and water are available for purchase daily.  To purchase ala carte items, students must have funds available.  No charges to accounts will be allowed.
