Gifted Art Program

  • The Roanoke County Public Schools Gifted Art Program offers enrollment in after school and summer enrichment programs for students in grades three (3) through eight (8) identified as exceptionally talented in art.

    A student may be nominated to be screened for the gifted art program beginning in second grade.

    Any parent or Roanoke County Schools employee may nominate a student for the gifted art program.

    The screening process consists of the following steps:

    1. Nomination (digital link below)
    2. Permission to screen (e-mailed to parent or guardian)
    3. Two screening drawings (instructions e-mailed to parent or guardian)
    4. Rating scale completed by the student's art teacher (e-mailed to art teacher)
    5. The drawings are scored by a committee of four art professionals.
    6. Notification sent to parent or guardian.

Gifted Art Deadlines 2019-20

  • January 15, 2020
    The latest date to start the nomination process and still have sufficient time to complete the screening process.

    February 15. 2020
    Deadline for submission of drawings for screening process. Drawings recieved after February 15 will still be processed, but the student will not be eligible for Summer 2020 Gifted Art sessions. Drawings recieved after February 15 may be eligible to attend Fall 2020 Gifted Art sessions, pending RCPS ability to conduct a summer screening, and the student's acceptance into the program.     March 15, 2020
    Tentative date for mailing notice of acceptance or denial for screenings received on or prior to February 15.

    March 15, 2020
    Summer program registration form mailed to student home.

    May 1, 2020
    Summer registration forms due with payment to student's school.

    May 21, 2020
    End of 2019-20 school year. Last date for all screening materials to be on file for Fall 2020 Gifted Art eligibility. Any nominations or screening materials recieved past May 21 will not be eligible for Fall 2020 Gifted Art sessions. but will be processed for future Gifted Art program eligibility.
