Children who qualify for the Virginia Preschool Initiative Program must be four years of age on or before September 30th of the attending year. The child’s family must live in Roanoke County and if accepted, the child may only attend preschool at the school in the area where the family lives.
Parents/guardians who work for Roanoke County and reside in Roanoke County, may pay tuition for their child to attend a Roanoke County preschool. Children must be three on or before September 30th of the attending year. Registration for this population is in the spring. An email is sent to all Roanoke County employees informing them of the registration period.

Roanoke County Public Schools is proud to partner with the United Way, local school systems and preschool providers on the new Smart 2 Start program. This program provides a one-stop-shop resource for parents to enroll their children in early care and education programs. Smart2Start is the sole point of contact, ensuring all families have access to these early childhood resources.
