Welcome to our 2018-19 Music Class!
Our big news this year is that we have a SECOND MUSIC TEACHER, Mr. Stefan Castro, who joins us every third day to co-teach six of our Music classes! He is a wonderful addition to our school! We share him with Fort Lewis Elementary School and feel very fortunate to have him with us.
We hope your child is coming home and telling you about what we are doing in Music Class this year. We have many fun and exciting things going on! We believe that Music should be FUN as well as EDUCATIONAL, and we strive every day to teach your children, in a fun and active way, as much about Music as we can. We sincerely hope that they learn to love music enough to make it a part of their everyday life forever. During class, we will be working on many musical skills including singing, playing instruments, listening & moving to music, music theory, and music history. In addition, music will be taught that reinforces skills that our students are studying in their academic classrooms. It is well documented that learning through music increases knowledge in all subject areas.
We have some wonderful performances lined up for this year. All GVES Students in Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th & 5th will perform for our annual Veterans Day Program which will be Friday, November 9, beginning at 8:15 a.m. This is a wonderful program where we honor our Veterans in song and ceremony. Parents and Friends of GVES are invited to attend, but we warn you that seating in the cafeteria is limited since we first must seat the entire student body, staff, and Veteran guests! Preferential seating will, of course, be given to our honorees, our VETERANS. Information will be sent home in October.
Other musical performances this year will include PTA Programs given by Kindergarten, Second, Fourth & Fifth grades. Fifth grade will take the leadership role in Veterans Day and will also sing at their June Graduation. Below are the dates for these programs. Mark your calendars and watch for additional information to come home in your child's folder. We always send permission notes (to be signed and returned to school) to give you plenty of time to practice speaking parts and secure simple costumes.

If you have musical talents and/or instruments you would like to share, we encourage you to call me to set up a time to visit our music class!
Thank you for all your support and we look forward to working with your child!
