BCAT Students Show the Hermitage Some "LOVE"
On Friday, June 3, 2022, the Hermitage Roanoke officially cut the ribbon to dedicate their LOVE sign, which was created and installed by BCAT Building Trades students.
On hand as the Guest of Honor was Michael Learned, an iconic actor who is best known for portraying Mrs. Olivia Walton on "The Waltons". Senators Time Kaine and Mark Warner sent warm regards and congratulated our students on their efforts.
Two of the students who helped build this sign were on hand to be part of the ribbon-cutting ceremony, as was Mr. Shelton (Building Trades instructor).
Dr. Nicely and Mr. Kish were on hand to witness this dedication ceremony. Ms. Learned was so kind in taking extra time talking with our students individually. It was an incredibly nice gesture. What a gem!
This project started in early spring, with year 2 and year 3 students doing the majority of the work. What started as a simple sketch turned into an iconic project that will last for years on the grounds of this historic site.
Special thanks go out to Mara Pufko (JVG Coordinator) in helping facilitate this. Also, Wade Tallant (Hermitage Director of Marketing) was such a gracious host in giving the students a wonderful lunch after the installation.
Well done, Mr. Shelton and students! What an outstanding accomplishment and well-deserved honor!
