JANUARY 2020 Edition

 Happy New Year Parents/Guardians,

Well it’s that time of year where many of us decide that we should make a New Year’s Resolution. I for one, could stand to lose a few pounds! Whether it’s eating healthier, connecting with family or friends more often, learning a new hobby, or trying to be less stressed, January 1st is always a good time to start something new. While it is always important to try to be a “better you,” the same can be said about working to make others around you better. That will also be a goal of mine this year.

I have learned a great deal in the short time as the new principal of Glen Cove Elementary. I have learned what a special place this is, with a wonderful group of teachers and support staff that care greatly about each child. They want to make their students better whether it’s academically, socially or emotionally. I can say with confidence that your child’s teacher is purposeful with their teaching and instruction and they genuinely care about your student’s future as well.

I have challenged the staff this year to think about an “SRG” – self-reflective goal. I have explained that it doesn’t have to be anything complicated but simply something they want to improve on. What will make them a better teacher or even just a better person? This kind of simple reflection is necessary and important.

My first morning announcement of the New Year to the students of Glen Cove was to think about their own New Year’s Resolution. Do they want to make new friends, read more, be a better citizen or show more school spirit this year? Whatever it may be, I want our own kids at Glen Cove to think of an SRG.

It is important as parents that we have those kind of conversations with our children.  I have them with my own often. My hope is that they will remember these conversations and that it will make them better as they grow. As adults, children watch us carefully and learn a lot from us each and every day. Are we good representations of what we want our children to see and what they should learn?

Thank you for your continued support of your child and our school. Together, we can make 2020 a fantastic year!

All the best,

Will Krause
