RCPS Education Foundation: investing in students and teachers
In 1991, education and business leaders in Roanoke County had the foresight to launch an independent organization exclusively dedicated to the students and teachers of Roanoke County: the Roanoke County Public Schools Education Foundation. The Education Foundation began with the bold purpose of “furthering educational opportunities for all students in the Roanoke County Public Schools system… and to provide assistance and encouragement to teachers, administrators, and staff” as well as “stimulating more effective learning and excellence in teaching and school administration”. Since 1991, the Education Foundation has distributed well over $1 million in scholarship funds donated by employees, business people, and citizens. The Education Foundation has also supported and encouraged classroom teachers through the Golden Apple Awards and classroom grants. Members of the Board of Trustees are representatives of local businesses that are committed to public education, including folks like Jason Sandzimier of Kroger, Eddie Gupton of Rockydale Quarries, Kim Frampton of Carilion, Mike Munsey of First Team, Russell Decker of Segra, Roger Redd of BB&T, Joseph Higginbotham of DS Smith, Stephen Soltis of Gala Industries, Aaron Robins of Walmart, Lori Wimbush of RCPS, and Gerald Holmes.
Thank you to the Education Foundation and the many RCPS employees who donate through payroll deduction. Even modest donations of $5 per month have a powerful, collective impact. Anyone interested in making a donation through payroll deduction should download and complete the form available on the Education Foundation website: Roanoke County Public Schools Education Foundation
