Sandzimier named new principal at Herman L. Horn Elementary

The Roanoke County School Board has selected Julie Sandzimier as the new principal at Herman L. Horn Elementary School, effective July 1.  Sandzimier replaces Peggy Stovall, who will retire at the end of the current school year.

Sandzimier began teaching in Roanoke City Public Schools in 1991 and moved to New Jersey to teach there in 1994.  Sandzimier returned to the Roanoke Valley in 2001 and joined Roanoke County Public Schools as a teacher at Burlington Elementary School.  She moved to Bonsack Elementary School as a teacher in 2007.  In 2015, Sandzimier accepted a position with Roanoke City Public Schools before returning to Roanoke County in 2016 as the assistant principal at Green Valley Elementary School.  In 2017, she was named the principal at Fort Lewis Elementary School.

Sandzimier holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Radford University and a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Radford University.

“Julie has shown excellent leadership at Green Valley and Fort Lewis and I’m pleased she will continue that leadership at Herman L. Horn,” said Roanoke County Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Greg Killough.
