School Board names new assistant principal for WBMS, deans of students
The Roanoke County School Board has selected Jessica Yates as the new assistant principal for William Byrd Middle School. Yates, who has ten years of instructional experience in Botetourt County, holds a bachelor’s degree from Hollins University a master’s degree in teaching from Mary Baldwin University and a certificate in administration and supervision from Longwood University.
Josh Noell is returning to Cave Spring High School as the new dean of students, effective July 1. Noell joined Roanoke County Public Schools in 2012 as an instructional assistant at CSHS and became a special education teacher in 2013. In 2019, he was named the special education coordinator for Hidden Valley High School. Noell holds a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in special education from Radford University. He also holds an educational specialist’s degree in educational leadership and policy studies from Virginia Tech.
Tammy O’Dom has been selected as the new dean of students for Glenvar High School, effective July 1. O’Dom joined Roanoke County Public Schools in 2009 as a teacher at Glenvar High School and has taught at GHS ever since. She holds a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction from Virginia Tech. She will complete her certificate in educational leadership at James Madison University in June.
Crystal Waggoner has been named the new dean of students for Hidden Valley High School. Waggoner joined Roanoke County Public Schools in 2000 as a teacher at Cave Spring High School after teaching at Roanoke Valley Christian School for two years prior. In 2002, she moved to Hidden Valley High School, where she has been teaching ever since. She holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Virginia and a master’s degree in administration and supervision from Liberty University.
“I’m very pleased that this group is beginning new leadership opportunities,” said Dr. Ken Nicely, superintendent of Roanoke County Public Schools. “We are constantly working to develop new leaders and I’m pleased to be working with Jessica, Josh, Tammy and Crystal in their new positions,” Dr. Nicely said.
