School Board names new deans of students
The Roanoke County School Board has named four new deans of students for Glenvar, Hidden Valley, Northside and William Byrd high schools. Cave Spring High School added a dean of students at the beginning of the previous school year.
Tyler Brown has been selected as the dean of students for Glenvar High School. Brown first joined Roanoke County Public Schools as a teacher at Northside High School in 2012, after teaching in Montgomery County from 2009-2012. Brown moved to Glenvar High School as a teacher in 2017. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Ferrum College, a Master’s Degree in Special Education from Mary Baldwin College and an Educational Leadership Certificate from James Madison University.
Joseph Jablonski is the dean of students for Hidden Valley High School. Jablonski joins Roanoke County Public Schools with 20 years of teaching and administrative experience in Nevada and Roanoke City. Jablonski holds two Bachelor’s Degree from the University of New Mexico, and two Master’s Degrees (curriculum & instruction and educational leadership) from The University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
Tami Amos has been selected as the dean of students for Northside High School. Amos comes to Roanoke County Public Schools with 16 years of teaching and administration in Roanoke City. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Virginia Union University and a Master’s Degree in Liberal Studies from Hollins University. She earned her endorsement in administration and supervision from the University of Virginia.
Travis Anderson is the dean of students for William Byrd High School. Anderson began with Roanoke County Public Schools in 2008 as a teacher at Cave Spring High School. In 2018, he became the testing coordinator at William Byrd High School. Anderson holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Virginia Tech, a Master’s Degree in curriculum and instruction from Virginia Tech and a Master’s Degree in educational leadership from Radford University.
“I am very pleased that Tyler, Joe, Tami and Travis are beginning these new administrative roles,” said Dr. Ken Nicely, superintendent of Roanoke County Public Schools. “The dean of students is a new administration position we created to work with the school principal to carry out the school's mission and vision for student learning and success. The dean of students provides proactive leadership to engage students and teachers in the delivery of programs and services which support students' intellectual, social, and emotional learning and growth,” Dr. Nicely added.
