Wimbush named director of equity and engagement
The Roanoke County School Board has named Lori Wimbush as the director of equity and engagement, effective July 1. This is a new position created as part of the district’s ongoing effort to cultivate an inclusive learning culture and respectful climate in our schools and school division. Wimbush has been serving as the co-chairperson of the district’s equity committee for the past year and has been working achieve the division’s goals and objectives related to diversity and equity including ensuring equitable access to high quality learning and programs for all students.
“Now, more than ever, we must work to champion a ‘changing hearts and minds’ approach that engages stakeholders in dialogue that raises awareness and results in productive, meaningful and equitable outcomes for all students and staff,” said Dr. Ken Nicely, superintendent of Roanoke County Public Schools. “I’m very pleased that Lori will be taking the lead on this effort to assist schools across our district,” Dr. Nicely said.
Wimbush first joined Roanoke County Public Schools as the assistant principal at Northside Middle School in 2004 and was named principal at NMS in 2006. In 2016, she was named the principal of Hidden Valley High School. Before joining Roanoke County, Wimbush served as a teacher in Henry County and Roanoke City.
Wimbush holds a bachelor’s degree from Radford University. She also holds a master’s degree in educational leadership from Radford University an Educational Specialist’s degree from Liberty University. She currently is working toward her doctorate from Radford University.
