Butzer steps down as school board chairman, Moretz named new chairman
Don Butzer, current Catawba District member of the Roanoke County School Board, has stepped down as chairman of the board. The board has selected Jason Moretz, Windsor Hills District member, as the new chairman for the remainder of the year.
“I felt that transitioning the chairmanship of the school board now, instead of in June, will ensure a seamless transition,” said Butzer.
Earlier this month, Butzer announced he would be leaving the school board in June. Today, the board announced the process by which a new Catawba District representative would be selected to serve on the board until the election this November.
On May 14, the board will officially advertise the vacancy and will begin accepting applications until May 24. Applications are to be sent to the clerk of the school board. On June 1, candidates will be interviewed in a public work session. On June 10, the final candidate will be announced.
Those interested in running for election for Catawba District seat in November must file the necessary paperwork by August 13.
